How Can I Write Better Blog Posts? by Frank Bella

Do you consider yourself a writer? I know many internet marketers who get really nervous when it comes to writing. They are great at conceptualizing, they have great ideas but they cringe at writing a blog post. I think that every internet marketer, especially those who blog, are writers in some sense. Some bloggers write in more volume than novelists or even news reporters.
Having a writing background is a great benefit when internet marketing, but even people who fear the idea of writing can sharpen their blog posts with a couple friendly hints. If you follow these rules, you will certainly write better blog posts.

1. Write About Your Passions – Easiest way to create great content quickly. You will find the words flow easier and that you can write more effectively when you really feel for the subject.

2. Keep Paragraphs Short - Seeing a huge wall of unbroken text is ominous to a reader. Keep the paragraphs short and punchy. It is easier to read articles like this and it looks more inviting.

3. Use Simple Words - Using big flowery words you find in the thesaurus won’t help you look smarter. In fact, people find it more pretentious than impressive. Even worse, if you misuse a large word, that just looks completely unprofessional.

4. Proper Punctuation and Spelling - This is an easy one, try to avoid typos and misspellings. You have to read over your work a number of times to catch all of these. I am notorious for spelling errors, but someday I will eliminate them!
5. Write Like You Talk - Remember, a blog post isn’t a formal essay. You should take a more casual approach and write the same way you talk. People will find this easy to relate to. A great way to edit your blog posts is by reading it aloud. If you find yourself stumbling across a certain part, or it sounds weird – edit it!

6. Use Bulleted Lists – Bulleted lists are a great way to break up your blog posts. It is just aesthetically pleasing as well as easily digestible for your readers.

7. Write For Your Reader - This is important. When you choose a niche to blog about, you should have an idea of who your ideal audience is. Write for them. If you are writing for children, the tone and style of your writing would be different than if you were writing for adults. For example, I have a rap music blog and I could easily add a line like “This is a SICK track”, but I would never write like that on this blog.

8. Practice - The only way to get better at writing is to do it, and do it often. You will get better and you will get faster. You will also learn what works with your particular readers.

When you are Internet Marketing, being able to write thoughtful, catchy blog posts is a huge asset. If you follow the above steps, you will produce higher quality content at a quicker pace. Maybe someday you will even refer to yourself as a writer.
